No Habla "Can't Do It"

I can't do it.

I can't.

I caaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan't!

Do you think I was asking her to re-roof the house? Or possibly trim the boxwood? Maybe I was requesting a complete floor to ceiling scrub down of every wall in the entire house?

No, I was asking her to put her socks on.

I admit, I'm not a morning person.

I remember pulling the baby blue JC Penney bedspread over my head and burrowing down as far as I could on the bottom bunk of my twin bed...willing for a few more hours of sleep. As a teenager, I know I hit the snooze alarm a painful number of times before actually acknowledging that yes, it was time to get up and get moving, and rushing the rest of my morning. My college mornings were much the same - except I had the freedom of choosing when my classes would start, so of course, the majority of them began sometime after noon...

So it really is no surprise that I have a child who so closely follows in my footsteps, even though life doesn't really permit children to be "night owls."

The other day she told me, while flipping her extremely loose bottom tooth back and forth, that she wished she could go to "night school." I explained that there is no night school kindergarten and she just shrugged her shoulders and said, "well there should be."

Maybe she's onto something.

Or maybe she thinks if she does enough coaxing, I just might think it's a good idea to homeschool her myself. And knowing how much I LOVE getting up in the morning, she envisions a life of lazing around until 10am in our jammies, eating Captain Crunch in front of the TV and finally whipping out math flash cards around 2 or 3 in the afternoon.

That is so not going to happen.

Parenting is so different when it's your third.

Or maybe it's because she's our last?

Or maybe it's because she's a girl?

Who knows.

All I know is that she hates the mornings more than I ever did. She acts like getting dressed is the worst thing in the world I could ask her to do and then when we're doing her hair, she frowns the entire time, like this:

But, I love her anyway.

Because that's what mommies do.

Not only did you sing.. I think somewhere we recorded your infant sounds (before the singing actually had words).

Just go back to that happy place when you open your eyes!

Maybe she could get dressed the night before?

It IS a family thing Joan. I used to get up with Jen before school until I was met with, "Mom, please don't get up with me. I don't want to talk to you in the morning." So I just left the glass, vitamins, instant breakfast and spoon by the frig. :)
