Survivor Mom: Bear Grylls Has Nothing On This

We're in lockdown mode here at Casa de Screaming Children.

Meaning, we're snowed in.

Not to fret! I have a plan. And no, my plan does not involve digging up potato bugs from the frozen ground and sprinkling them on anything for a little added crunch and protein.

Yesterday, in between cups of cocoa and handfuls of red and green jelly beans, McRae built a fine igloo in the back yard, with the help of his brother and the neighbor boy. They worked for hours, filling an empty recycle bin with snow, packing it down tight, and then stacking the "bricks" on top of each other to create the walls of this igloo.

When the temperature dropped below 20, they were all getting a little cold, so they threw a few sleds on top, packed some more snow on top of that, and called it a day.

This igloo is my survival shelter, in case the power goes out.

I figure that with if the the kids, the dog, and myself stuff our clothes with all the Hot Hands we can find and cram into that igloo, we ought to be just fine.

Don't worry about us, we're okay. Really.

Plus, we have cocoa. Lots of it. Don't tell our neighbors.

Any schnapps? For you of course. But if the kids need help settling down...

They'll remember the igloo forever.

Thanks, I'll add "build an igloo" to our list of what to do. I'm getting tired of this homeboundness. Can we have our makeup days of school this week??

The worst part for us is that we are trapped, hubby is gone until Christmas eve, and I have no wine. Gah.

ahhhh...great minds think alike. My husband, the kids and the neighbor kids built an igloo today that I was planning on posting pics of....but they went too grand of scale and had nothing to cover the top. And their bricks were tupperware rectangle dishes. Hours and hours. Maybe tomorrow they'll finish it? I could use some peace and quiet here. I am sure though it is a memory they'll treasure.

Ok, first I'm jealous. We NEVER EVER EVER have had enough snow to build more than a 2ft. tall snowman in my part of Texas. (Ok, so maybe the biggest one was 3 or 4 ft. tall, but that was using every stitch of snow in the yard, not sparing a single flake!)

Second, WOW...the ingenuity to use the recycle bin to create bricks & stack them to make a house...good job, kiddos!

Third, yuck....being STUCK due to the snow's gotta suck. I have a friend in Port Angeles who sent me some pics of their snow. I assume you've got about the same amount. Looks beautiful, but I wouldn't know what to do with it!!!

we're trapped too! I'm down to my last bottle of wine and the forecast calls for more snow. This is anxiety city here.

That is so cool that they built that! At least you're having fun with the snow--sure beats complaining about it (like I usually do!)
