With so much going on, it's easy to lose sight of what really matters most. Things like family and wonderful friends become those beacons of light and calmness in the storm that surrounds you, and without their presence, you know you'd be lost.
With that said, we find ourselves lucky and happy. Happy to be surrounded by such loving people and lucky to be able to experience each day, grabbing it by the horns and squeezing each little drop of living that we can from it. Having family visit from Denmark has done this for us. It has allowed us to "vacation" in our own little neck of the woods and wander the familiar places we usually whiz by with the eyes of a tourist, a visitor, a traveller who doesn't want to miss a thing. We take these things for granted. Things like the trees, the saltwater, the beach, the "fairy" boats, the mountains and the quaint little towns - the endless ice cream cones. The heaviness of a tired head hitting the pillow at the end of a very long day and the thankfulness that we all got to experience it together.
Families connecting, little girls coming home, sun, fun and people relaxing, festivals attended, beaches waded, roads driven, restaurants enjoyed, sights seen. That is what I will take from these past few weeks.
That is the "happy" we seek.
Valuable lessons were also learned, lessons that need to be experienced rather than taught. In addition to the old stand-by "don't turn your back on the sea", the boys learned a new one, "don't laugh when your brother gets hit with a wave". For if you do . . .
You will be sorry:
See Ya!
