Today I asked my daughter if she'd like to go to the grocery store with me (risky on my part since our local store recently shut down their "kids play place" area because of the bad economy). I figured it'd be better late than never to teach her about picking out a ripe pineapple or the perfect bunch of bananas.
You see, thanks to that play place, she hasn't done a huge amount of actual shopping with me in her 5 long years. Instead she spends the hour or so in that little germ room while I wander the aisles trying to stick to my list. I would pick her up at the end, spray her down with hand sanitizer, she'd have a pretty picture to show me and we'd both head home, happy. I thought that since she'd be starting kindergarten in the fall, I'd better not miss out on the experience with her.
Her response: "Only if I can get something."
Good thing she's cute.

That picture is classic..
LOVE those shades!
They have play places at your Pacific NW grocery stores?! (Okay, HAD?) Lucky! Forget teaching her about picking out pineapples! You've had the ability to shop in peace for the last several years...I'm jealous my friend! I had to wait til school started!
Haha! I'm jealous that you ever HAD a play place in the store!
unfortunately my kids would never have let me leave them in a playroom. what i wouldn't do for a playroom at the store!
A play place in a grocery store?! The thought of that gives me a warm squishy feeling in my tummy.
I typically just lose my mind at the store and leave exhausted with the prospect of unloading and putting away $150 worth of groceries in my thoughts.
LOL CLEARLY she's a very bright child - God bless you when she's a teenager! :O)
Stumbled on your blog....
I wonder if kids take a class to learn that stuff. That's exactly what my daughter says...I normally tell her, when Mommy gets something - you get something! :)
p.s. I tagged you in a meme today :)
I've never heard of a store w/ a playroom! That's either really cool or really gross (the germs!). Not sure how to feel about that one.
I figured out a few years ago when I had a newborn, a 1yr old & a 4 year old that it was best for me to go alone. They're now 8, 9 & 12 and I still go alone! :) I put them to bed on Fri nights & turn the parental reigns over to hubby while I got to the store alone! It's kinda like my own private GNO. My kids have very rarely gone w/ me on "off" weeks when we had to do something other than the usual routine. They want to help but usually only "help" me go crazy.
getting things is a high priority for the little ones, isn't it. cute does help of course!
LOL! She's one smart cookie :)
About the best way I can get my 6 yr old to come along is to promise to stop at the Costco park to play on the way home. but sometimes its too rainy and cold....
Isn't that the way it is now days. I'll play the game Mom as long as I get something out of it. Oh, the price of being a Mom! Cute reads. Have a wonderful Easter weekend,
Katie
This is a girl after my OWN heart! :)
