You Make Me Want to Poke My Eye Out! And Other Christmas Cheer

This post brought to you by large doses of cabin fever:

It will likely be 2009 before my children return to the mecca known as the public school system. 2009 people! Next year!

I don't know whether to laugh or cry.

After jokingly telling the boys that the school will only be one hour late tomorrow, despite the fresh 8 inches of snow on top of the snow that fell on Sunday, my husband winked my way, to let me know he was kidding.

As I was loading the dishwasher and cleaning up the pots and pans after dinner I told him that the kids won't be going back to school until next year. He seemed confused. He seemed perplexed. He said something about Monday coming and the possibility that the roads would be sanded and passable by then. He mentioned that he thought, at worst, they would have another 2 hour late start.

I told him winter break starts Friday. As in, this Friday.

I think I made him cry.

Over the summer, our family took the annual week-long vacation with our friends and their children to one of the warmest places in Washington where the sun always shines. We have been doing this trip for so long that we are certifiable professionals by now and have all the kinks ironed out perfectly regarding our quest to have a good time.

The most important player in the adults quest to have a good time is the implementation of a little activity we like to call "happy hour."

Happy Hour is when all the kids retreat to their family's air conditioned trailers for a little downtime while the adults sit in the sweltering heat, drink cocktails and snack on hors d'vours. It is magical.

I say winter break is in great need of Happy Hour.

What say you?

* That 8 inches of snow has turned into a foot! A foot people! I need good winter warmth drink recipes and I need them stat.

A foot? No fair. We only have half that.

Google: mulled wine. cider for the wee ones.

We, however, are doing chili & beer. Good movie on HBO at 4:30!

Dude, I know, we're due for a snow day tomorrow! In fact, Little BEar and TOpher already had their holiday party at school today, unexpectedly, because the teachers were just planning on tomorrow being a snowday! And dude, there are SIX of them in our house! And they're noisy! The baby may not get a nap for the next two weeks!

The only one I know is Hot Buttered Rum, but it is a doozy--in both calories and alcohol.

Nips of peppermint schnapps every 15 min until numb. By the time January 5th 2009 gets her I will need to enter rehab.

Holy crap! You guys got a foot of snow? We only got couple inches. Yikes.
What a bummer tho - Himself had a wonderful Christmas program all readied along with the other kindergarteners, we were going to decorate cookies tonight for the party. I even ok'd time off work so I could hang out on his last day before Christmas vacation. So sad that none of that will happen.

Oh, and Peppermint Scnhaaps in your hot cocoa - yummy! Or bailey's in coffee.

Thanks for stopping by my blog! I love this post! I'm going to follow you!
What part of Washington are you in? I grew up in Marysville. My dad lives in Oso, out of Arlingtion about 20 miles, and they have 26 inches at 4pm today! Crazy! It never snowed that bad when I lived there.

You are in need of a girls' day! Let hubby watch the kids and go and giggle with someone. There's always the electronic babysitter, which I'm a firm believer in when needed.

We got the same snow! No school for us 'til 2009, either. It's only 9 am and I'm already sick of winter weather AND winter break!

Send me some of that snow!

And yes, most definitely happy hour!

I agree, we could have a virtual happy hour!

Love the happy hour idea!! My sister and I discovered the hot cocoa, peppermint schnapps, and a piece of peppermint bark (I had never had peppermint bark before, but let me just say YUMMMMMMY!) makes a really good drink!

I think (ie HOPE) my son still has school up until next Wednesday.

Yes, I think you need a Happy Hour. Several. And maybe even on during the same day! ;-)

Dood. I feel your pain. I think we just got a foot today, too.

I'm thinkin' Scotch. The alcoholic kind for adults and tape variety for whiny mouths.

I don't even know what that feels like anymore!

I had the littlest home the other day post surgery. About drove me crazy! :)

This is when I'd like to take the opportunity to gently remind you that you're drinking for me, too.

And don't worry, I've eaten enough cookies and chex mix for the both of us today. 8)

One year ago, I never could have related to this post. But now, I so get it, it is cabin fever. I think it will get worse when I have 2 out of 3 kids in school next year. No?
