T'was the Morning After Christmas

And all through the house, none of the children were stirring,

It was as if they were soused.

The puppy was wired, as I got him from bed,

And visions of chewy toys danced in his head.

I opened the door and told him to "go"

But something spooked him, could be all that snow!

It fell from the sky with the greatest abandon,

And I counted my blessings, so happy to have them!

Then suddenly I heard the patter of little feet,

And down the stairs my oldest soon did creep.

"Good Morning Mom," he said like nothing had happened,

As if he hadn't just missed Christmas, and all of the action.

A smile on his face and a fever now gone,

He plopped down on the couch and got his Nicktoon groove on.

And I, as I sat there, heaved a great sigh,

To have a healthy child, how lucky am I!

The family did miss him, they sent him his gifts,

And words of "I wish he was here" often fell from my lips.

But Christmas will come again next year,

And the immune systems better be working,

Do you hear that virus? Stay clear!

Not long and the usual banter will resume,

Brothers will fight and sister will say "Go to your room!"

But the moments of peace, as seldom they come,

Will get us through the day . . .

And the Wii will bring us some much-needed fun!

Thank you, Santa.

Oy, everyone has been dreadfully ill. Here's hoping that immune system is as contagious as the flu and colds we're plagued by! Hope your Christmas was merry despite the sicknesses.

I am glad he's on the mend and that he didn't feel the loss of Christmas day too keenly.
