Wisdom

From McRae:

"Mom, you know that guy who sings that parking lot song?"

I think for a minute, wondering what new pop song he's referring to that I haven't heard because I prefer the "adult alternative" radio station, you know, cool music. Then I get it.

"Oh, you mean the pave paradise and put up a parking lot (Big Yellow Taxi) song?"

"Yeah, that one."

"Well, it's a group called The Counting Crows that sings it," I answer, imparting all my musical wisdom unto him.

"Yes, well they didn't sing that song first," he says like he's just uncovered the secret to making money from toilet paper or something.

"You're right," I say, "who did?"

"Joni Mitchell."

Well, well Mr. SmartyPants, I think.

Well, that and, that . . .

There is still value in a public school education after all.

I have a funny feeling his music teacher will be getting a really good gift this Christmas!

Last week, two of my favorite bloggers nominated me for this award:

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you to Jessica, from Oh! The Joys (could this woman be any funnier?), and the one and only Queen, from Queen of the Mayhem - I think it was just now that I realized that I don't know her first name - what she wrote about me when she handed this out caused a sprint to the Kleenex box! Thank you so much, all of you.

I don't know how I'd get through this crazy world without all the support, friendship, inspiration and words of wisdom from all of you.

So, I'd like to pass this along to some wonderful women who I have discovered recently.

First, Cathy from Arkie Mama, who makes me laugh with her punchy and hilarious accounts of motherhood and marriage.

Second, to Flutter from Fluttercrafts, whose posts are part poetry, part reality and always, always beautiful. Reading her is a gift, truly.

And last, but certainly not least, to Aimee from Greeblemonkey. This Colorado mama is smart, creative and got a great funny bone - plus, she isn't afraid to speak her mind, and I love that about her!
