What We Do When We Can't Go Outside

Brains for dinner anyone?

Winter in these parts always causes a case of "cabin fever" in our house that must be dealt with if I want anyone to survive with all of their limbs and bones in tact. That's when we must pull out the big guns. Things like play-doh, board games, forts and crafts take over. In other words, a big mess. It is part of the give and take part of parenting that I just have to let happen, because although I enjoy an orderly, neat home, I have to let my kids make some messes to maintain their sanity (and mine) when they can't go outside to burn up all of their energy. And first up was the brain making...thanks mom!

I think it may have turned them into crazy little mad scientists though...you decide.

In other winter news, Katie has been enjoying making good use of her new bed. As a trampoline.

Disclaimer: no children were harmed in the filming of this photo, and the subject will soon be getting a taller mattress for said bed. Maybe this will keep her in her own room during future nights instead of crawling in with mom and dad at 3 am.

And...talk about skeletons in the closet! I decided to tackle the dreaded "closet under the stairs" today. Please tell me that I am not the only person in the world with a messy closet like this one, a place where items go in (and children too) and are never seen again. It is like a scene from a horror movie. Quick Katie, out of the way, something might grab you and pull you in if you stand too close!

Look, we are musicians, rock stars even!!! Who knew there were 2 electric bass guitars hiding in there?

At least this cupboard looks somewhat organized. For now. Enjoy it's tidiness while you can, for it won't last for long!

And yes, that's "Winnie the Pooh" tupperware in there, laugh and I'll wring your neck!

I have a couple of those closets! As for the cabin fever, we here at the Mayhem are also suffering. Here in the deep south, it is rarely THIS cold for THIS long of a time. Both my kids and my hibiscus trees are not adapting well! While we have not tried the edible brains, we are making use of crafts and board games...that and DVDs!

Your kids are so cute. How do you stand it?

Don't go near my hall closet without holy oil and a Bible.

I hate to say it, but our den looks like your closet, it's just used for storage mostly. Sad.

Looks like your mad scientists had a great time!

HAHAHAHAHA... ;-)

Ok, now I am grateful for a fairly warm winter... board games make me nutso.

The phrase most likely to come out of my mouth? "Go outside and play!"
