HELP!

I know that I am not a budding photographer, but can someone please tell me why it is so difficult to get three kids to smile for the camera at the same time?

I could send this shot, with Wyatt's crossed eyes off to friends and family in our Christmas cards this year, or . . .

this lovely one. Doesn't it just capture Katie's personality perfectly? This is one of those pictures you would see hanging on your friend's refrigerator along with the beautiful black and white, professionally taken photos of her other friends (you know, the ones with class) and wonder "who would send out a pictire like that one?".

Then again, I could choose this one. By now, the kids (and my husband) were all a little sick of my impromptu Christmas card photo shoot and wanted nothing to do with it, or me.

What's a girl to do?

I do have to say that McRae was unusually poised, which doesn't always happen. Hope he can pull that off when I make him sit on Santa's lap this weekend! Ho! Ho! Ho!

Hi Carrie,

American ex-pat here, having finally re-discovered your web site. I liked all of the photos and know what you mean about the problems of getting everyone to cooperate at the same time. It just can't happen. You'll see Joan soon -- wish I could. Love, UJ

My husband always mades faces for the camera and now he has a daughter who does the same...
He becomes soooo frustrated with her and I just have to laugh...It is his comupence

You know, if you told them to all make stinky or scarey faces, you'd get the "perfect" photo that way. Of course they wouldn't look like smiling, sweet, cherubs. BUt.... heehee. I have a problem trying to take a decent pic of ONE kid and a dog together. I have NO CLUE how to get a perfect shot with three children.

I feel ya. It's hard enough to get ONE child to smile for the camera, let alone three!

Is there something you could bribe them with? Like hold a candy bar up or something? I know that's totally low, but desperate times take desperate measures, kwim?

You are so not alone with this. We have several hundred photos of the children ruined by me pulling faces in them. Just what are we to do. I blame society!

BEAUTIFUL kids!!!! I always plan photos for my two rugrats on a weekend. I need LOTS of time, patience, and batteries for the digital camera. I take a million pictures and pray I find one that does not make me throw up. Then I schedule another photo session for the next weekend....

You are not alone!

That is too funny! You should make that your Xmas card just for fun, because everyone can relate. Either that or photoshop. he he.

Ya know, I like it when their personalities show through. Makes for good memories later on. But you're right, one picture now and then all smiles would be nice. Thank goodness for digital cameras!

So funny! If it makes you feel any better, we still don't have a photo where my brother has his eyes open. And he's 36.

I love it!! The one I picked for our card probably has a close up of a booger or something, since I got so frustrated... oh, well. Kids are just great as kids, I think... the lovely black/white pics from a studio that look like a magazine ad don't do it for me... go for the personality!!

So true. At four kids I've given up on the group shot. This year I am designing my card with four individual head shots.
