Over the Hedge!

In typical Northwest fashion, it had been raining nonstop for the last 24 hours. Therefore, our plans to go to Folklife Festival were, well ruined. Plan B: take kids to the movies with a kagillion other people with nothing to do on holiday weekend! Crazy, right? Actually, no. I am not a negative person by nature, but when preparing myself for family outings (especially those where you have to be quiet and sit down) I usually visualize the worst scenario of all. That way I am either really prepared or completely surprised. And so, we haven't been to the movies with kids (or alone, isn't that sad?) since Christmas. It wasn't the most pleasant and I vowed not to take Katie again until she was 3, but it was raining (AGAIN), what else are we to do? It was Hubby's only day off and we really needed some family time. So off we go. Two ginormous buckets of popcorn, two sodas and an order of fake-cheese (like those middle-of-the-night 7-11 type from high school) nachos later, we made it through the whole movie without any toddler tantrums, screaming, biting, hittting or any other lovely character traits you can chalk up to the terrible two's! The movie was delightful, the voices were hilarious and I even got to cuddle with my nine year-old. AWWWW! And so, if you're afraid of bringing your family to a movie on a super-busy weekend for fear that something bad will happen and you will get kicked out of the "Parents Who Can Actually Bring Their Kids in Public" club, fear not. It may actually turn out to be wonderful!

As mine is still baking in the easy-bake oven, I don't have a child to take (hubby doesn't count) so I'll have to either a) steal a neighbor child, b) bring a Cabbage Patch kid (totally dating myself) or c) shamefully show up for a kids movie by myself and STILL get the gigantic popcorn.

It doesn't hurt that I am madly in love with Bruce Willis, even if he is only a cartoon in this flick.

I love going to the movies, but know how much of a drain it can be when the kids play up! Glad that everything went well!!

I can't wait until my son is old enough to go to the movies. Sounds like you guys had a great time. But who wouldn't have a good time when you're watching a flick AND eating popcorn, soda, and nachos? Yum.

Just found your blog and I'm so thankful I did. I've been debating whether to take my 3 year-old to see a movie. I too always imagine the worst and the movies just seems like I'm asking for trouble. I feel inspired to try.
