Grateful

Why is it the older we get, the faster the time goes?

Wasn't it just yesterday that I was gazing at all the amazing photographs of the participants (wondering why I even had the nerve to throw my photos into the mix) in Aimee's Greeblepix photography contest for October? Wasn't it?

Well, here we are again . . . I know! It flew by, that time.

This month Aimee asked us to try to find a photo that somehow meant "grateful" to us and I knew immediately which one I wanted to share. I couldn't find it last month and now, just like most things in life, I see that there may have been a reason for that because it fits perfectly into this month's theme.

Firechild, 2006

This photo says "grateful" to me for so many reasons. I'm grateful that I'm married to a hero, a firefighter who inspires others, loves unconditionally and ignites the hopes and dreams in our children better than anyone, as evidenced by this photo of our oldest child.

I love this photograph because I can remember everything about that day so clearly, the way my children's faces beamed when they found out we were going to watch Daddy drill at the fire station that day.

The excitement in McRae's eyes when he learned that there would be a "real fire."

The concerned look in Wyatt's eyes as he stood by my side and asked questions about how Daddy was going to put that fire out, and what would happen if he didn't.

And the genuine playfulness that Katie brought to the day. For her, it was all about the fun, yes the fun, and nothing but the fun.

More shots from that day:

Heart . . . in . . . throat, McRae, 2006

Wasn't it just yesterday?

Oh my goodness, my kids would have freaked out!!

My two year old just recently took a field trip to the fire station and bawled when they put the mask on. That was 2 months ago and he's still talking about it!

My baby!!

Those are great pics. Inspiring.

Nice Post Carrie and great photos too! I don't know what it is called but the older we get the more past we have to compare things to and time seems to go faster; as compared to your first year is just that the first time you have experienced life; anyway there is a term for it and I can't remember what it's called. Those are amazing photos. I have tears in my eyes.

My dad was a volunteer fireman for 25 years (the chief for 20 of those!) in our small town, and I have a very soft spot for firefighters from all walks of life.

I know there is a difference between volunteer vs. career firefighters, but oh my word, your kids will never lose the pride they have in their father. My chest still puffs up when I think about my dad in all of his fire gear.
